Though I'm not a big Nirvana fan, I do recognize the band's talent and importance. And I have an odd fascination with people like Kurt Cobain. (Another figure I've recently become interesed in is Lee Mavers of The La's.) Anyway, the sample entries from Cobain are revealing and sad. Reading this, I felt like I was inside some sort of fish tank with Kurt, talking with him as many people stared in at us from the other side of the glass. He is no different than many of the people I grew up with. His tone reminds me of people I went to high school with. Then one day, he got famous and his old world was gone. He didn't want to leave his old world. He was evicted and forced in to a world of phonies. I have to wonder if it's a healthy situation to be in, a world of fantasy. Sure, there's still the music, but eventually that too must necessarily become a product of the fantasy world that's been created. Real music comes from real people being honest and real. I don't see how you could become a rock star and still make music.
Mon Mar 15 22:42:32 2004 - I finally closed off comments for this topic and actually deleted about a dozen of the ones that were posted. I initially did not want to delete any comments. But there are so many nuts out there that have absolutely nothing to say and can only speak in crude, brief profanities... well, there's the kids to think about folks.

Honestly, Kurt did not mean to put all this CRAZY meaning into his lyrics. Usually he was fucked up when he wrote his songs and just wrote a lot of shit that would make him laugh. Haha, and KURt did not kill himself. Courtney killed him. No one loves kurt really, just his daughter loves him. We think we love what we saw. But we didnt see anything. And besides. Many of the kurt fans that think they love him did not even see kurt perform. You all lie, you dont know shit unless you actually talked and knew Kurt as a person. Stop living in mtv life and acting as if you are depressed because your daddy wont buy you a new pair of black socks to wear on your arms. Be fucking true to yourself, and hell yeah listen to Nirvana. Because they are really the shit, stop trying to be so yourself that you get caught up more in looking so like you are " unique". shit. peace, love and empthy.

Umm...people...okay for one it really doesn't matter what kind of music Nirvana was. They played music, music is music. Alright. And Kurt Cobain was just a regular guy that happened to be famous and killed himself. If he wasn't famous the nobody would be debating on the music, who he was, and what his life was like. So all u people need to start living your life and quit competing on here about Kurt Cobain. Stop treasuring his life and let him be. The past is gone. And the present is always coming.
i think kurt cobain was a rilly cool dude but from reading his journal he got fucked up from all the dugs that he did but the nirvana is the best band in the world

Nirvana was a completely authentic post-punk band. Their talent is undeniable. I just don't happen to be a big fan of their music. So I wish you folks would quit posting profanity and blather that only goes to indicate your own wanting intellect.

You are all retards... If you all enjoy Nirvana's music, then why are you argueing? And whether or not Nirvana was Punk or Rock... if you'd have read any Nirvana interviews, you'd know that the band constantly referred to themselves as "Punk-Rock" and also "Pop." Yes! Pop! Just like Justin Timberlake... You should all go to hell! Murder or Suicide: at least Kurt Cobain is away from his living hell and hopefully in peace now.... just leave him alone...
i think that Kurt represents truth. A complicated man who was able to unravel his issues through the use of drugs and this ultimately led to his downfall. Let us remember Kurt for the way that he impacted on each and everyone of us.
